PROVISION OF A HIGH VOLTAGE SHORE CONNECTION (HVSC) SYSTEM USING ENERGY EFFICIENT EQUIPMENT, IN THE PORT OF VALLETTA, GRAND HARBOUR

The project allows cruise liners and cargo ships to switch off their gasoil- or heavy-fuel-oil-fired engines and plug in to shoreside electricity to energise their onboard systems while they are berthed in port. 

Scope of Project

-Construction of the buildings for the Frequency Converter Station ( FCS 1 and FCS 3)

-33kV supplies from Marsa North DC to the FCS1 and FCS3 buildings

-Installation of two lengths of 33kV submarine cables and communication/fibre optic cables

-Supply and installation of all the 11 kV cables

-Supply and installation of a 100 mm heavy duty PVC duct, a communication cable  and a fibre optic cable (inside a 50mm HDPE duct)

-The construction of a significantly long culvert and duct bank

-High level steel support structure

-The provision of LV/ELV systems

-Restoration of Historical building ( including   facade stone, apertures, steel structure,  internal walls, roof covering )

-The provision of asphalt works

-Operating the HVSC system at the five quays for a period of two years

-Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the following equipment

• 33kV gas insulated incoming switchboards.
• The 33kV, 24 pulse input rectifier transformers
• The auxiliaries’ supply transformers
• The SFCs complete with their cooling equipment
• The rectifier output transformers
• The rectifier transformers output 11 kV gas insulated switchgear
• The 11kV RLC filters’ switchgear
• The galvanic isolation transformers’ neutral earthing resistors with related switchgear
• The 11 /6.6kV galvanic isolation transformers and their related pre-magnetisation transformers and voltage regulation equipment.
• The on-shore ship connector boxes
• The Shore-to-ship mobile cable management equipment
• 8 passenger lift
• Automatic start standby generator
• 1 OV DC system batteries
